I have not been on this site for several months and finally found time to do some catching up. When Carol started this site it was set up because members had no place to vent frustrations, make suggestions, or debate issues. There still is no other site to my knowledge. The only restriction was that disrespectful comments which attack a person/s were not allowed. Ideas, dialog and subjects were allowed but not if they disrespected any person. To allow that would only serve to further polarize members into groups. The blog was eventually turned over to Liz Wilson since we knew her to be fair person with integrity. She has done an overall very good job with the blog and is to be commended.
The reason I revisited the blog was I had heard that some respectful comments with differing opinions have been disallowed. I have no way of knowing if it is true since they are not there but this blog was established for opposing opinions and comments. It has and appears to still be faithful to that principal and serving the initial purpose. I recall the Forbes Park Connection when it existed was lacking in factual topics. I had documentation of one diatribe put on the site which was a complete misrepresentation and fabrication I did not bother to contradict the opinion with facts as it did not seem appropriate. A friend had a photo of her taken from our personal blog site and used without authorization with a speculative story. This blog site on the other hand has always had good opinion articles, respectful comments and varied yet respectful opinions. It is an asset to the members until a more official forum comes along.
It was not nor should it be a forum for agenda's or privileged information. That aspect looks very well maintained since Liz is now on the board but does not seem to cross any inappropriate lines. Comments pertaining to any director or past president should be more respectful in my opinion. While they may have made serious mistakes in the past it is no reason to demean the individual directly or by innuendo To label people and comment disparagingly toward them only lowers the quality of the blog to smut which is not what it was designed for That seems to be a subject for the contributors however. It was not established to be the National Enquirer but instead the Wall Street Journal. I see potential problems in this area and only submit this as my observation to return to the high standard it has been in the past,
Beyond that single observation and having been absent from reading it for quite a while it is pretty much upholding the original principals when it was established with an exception or two that are not beyond improving upon. It is a time consuming endeavor and Liz Wilson is to be congratulated on maintaining it with a level of integrity.
If the exclusionary comments I heard rumored are true and not being allowed then I hope attention will be given to that aspect.. Differing opinions should be welcomed providing they are respectful to individuals. I also noted that no one has submitted photos to be shared. I seem to recall that readers who didn't live in the park enjoyed that aspect of the blog. This is not a report card but just my own personal observations. Continue with the good job Liz and I will probably revisit again in a few months or when possible. Bruce McElmurray
